New Gisborne tennis players can look forward to extra time on court, thanks to completion of new lighting at the New Gisborne Tennis Club, made possible by the Victorian Government.
Member for Macedon Mary-Anne Thomas today joined representatives from Macedon Ranges Shire Council and the New Gisborne Tennis Club to officially flick the switch on the new lights backed by $170,000 from the Regional Community Sports Infrastructure Fund (RCSIF).
With 75 members signed up at the club and growing ranks of juniors taking up the game, the new lights open the door for more pathway and local development programs including Hot Shots Tennis for juniors.
The improved lighting also allows for more training and competition tennis, with the new 350 lux LED lighting illuminating courts one and two, meeting competition standards. It also opens the complex up as a possible venue for bigger tournaments providing a real boost for the local game.
The RCSIF is backed by the Regional Community Sport Development Fund and the All Abilities Sport Fund which has so far has invested more than $20 million in 26 infrastructure projects.
It’s part of the Victorian Government’s commitment to make regional centres like New Gisborne even better places to live, work, stay, and play.
The Victorian Budget 2024/25 is also providing more than $23 million to continue delivery of community sport and active recreation infrastructure, and programs to increase participation opportunities and improve accessibility.
Mary-Anne Thomas MP acknowledged Macedon Shire Council for its more than $45,000 financial contribution and commitment to delivering the project.
