SAFER SCHOOL CONNECTIONS FOR WOODEND COMMUNITY

Significant pedestrian safety upgrades will soon be delivered in Woodend, improving access to schools and making it safer for residents and visitors to get around.

The Victorian Government, together with Macedon Ranges Shire Council, has developed immediate pedestrian improvements to boost safety for school students and the wider community.

Upgrades include the relocation of the existing pedestrian crossing point on Romsey Road away from the High Street intersection, improving safety and reducing the risk of potential conflict between vehicles and pedestrians.

The new location will increase visibility for both pedestrians and drivers, while new footpaths and pedestrian fencing will guide pedestrians towards the new crossing point.

Connections to Woodend Primary School and St Ambrose Primary School will also be strengthened with new footpaths establishing safer, more direct ways for students to access education precincts. The broader community will also benefit from expanded access to the pedestrian network, including the town centre.

More than $179,000 has been invested towards the upgrades through the State Government’s Flexible Local Transport Solutions Program.

The program provides funding to local government and community organisations to partner on projects to address local transport issues, such as improving safety, encouraging active transport, and better integrating the transport network.

Works will be undertaken by Macedon Ranges Shire Council from July 2026, with options for further safety improvements to be considered.
