New oval lighting is set to put the spotlight on local sport in Riddells Creek thanks to the Victorian Government.
Member for Macedon Mary-Anne Thomas today joined members from the Riddells Creek Football Netball Club, Riddells Creek Cricket Club and Riddells Creek Junior Football Netball Club to officially launch the new lights, made possible by a $200,000 investment from the Country Football and Netball Program.
The lights give local football teams the chance to stage more night training and expand development programs, giving locals the opportunity to kit up and get involved in local sport, particularly women and girls.
The 150 lux lighting is also an energy saver with efficient LED fittings spreading even light, improving safety for players and encouraging greater participation on the oval for all.
Benefits also extend to the wider community, who will have more time to get together with friends and family to use the facilities for casual sport and play.
Developed in partnership with AFL Victoria and Netball Victoria, the Country Football and Netball Program has invested more than $41.5 million in over 580 projects since 2005.
The Victorian Budget 2024/25 is also providing more than $23 million to continue delivery of community sport and active recreation infrastructure, and programs to increase participation opportunities and improve accessibility.
This includes continuing the Country Football and Netball Program, so more Victorians can participate.
Mary-Anne Thomas MP acknowledged the Macedon Ranges Shire Council for its almost $160,000 contribution and commitment to delivering the project, and the Riddells Creek community for its support and contribution of $50,000.
