Petition calls for barry street roundabout funding

On Tuesday Member for Macedon Mary-Anne Thomas inspected the intersection of Barry Street and Main Street in Romsey, where a roundabout has been proposed to increase safety and reduce congestion.

The local community is being called on to sign a petition that asks the Minister for Roads to fund the project.

Following extensive consultation with the local community undertaken by VicRoads in 2017, VicRoads determined a roundabout as the preferred solution.

More than 570 people participated in the VicRoads consultation, ranging from local residents to local business owners.

The intersection is a key access point to the town for pedestrians and vehicles.

The busy intersection also serves as an important transport and tourist link between Melbourne and northern-central Victoria.

With works underway to upgrade the Melbourne-Lancefield Road, and improve the Main Street streetscape, upgrades to this section of road are long overdue.

These investments are a part of the Andrews Labor Government’s commitment to building better roads and delivering the infrastructure the people of Romsey need and deserve.
