Massive car parking boost for stations in macedon

The Andrews Labor Government is boosting car parking at train stations across Macedon to make it quicker and easier to drive to the station and catch the train.

Member for Macedon Mary-Anne Thomas announced today that over 300 new car parking spaces will be built across Macedon, Clarkefield and Woodend stations.

The Labor Government will deliver up to 110 new car parks at Macedon station, 50 new spaces at Clarkefield station, and seal and mark 200 spaces at Woodend. This is on top of the 40 new spaces at Gisborne and 100 new spaces at Kyneton that are already being delivered.

As well as increasing the number of parking spaces, new electronic pedestrian crossings will also be installed at station crossings in Kyneton and Clarkefield as part of the Safer Country Crossings Program to boost safety and save lives.

The car park upgrades are part of the Andrews Labor Government’s Road and Rail Minor Works Program, which will deliver new car parks, more comfortable waiting areas, and better passenger information at train stations across rural and regional Victoria.

The $22.5 million Program was funded in last year’s Victorian State Budget, which provided $1.3 billion to improve regional public transport.

It is the product of extensive consultation with local communities during the development of the Regional Network Development Plan, and will improve public transport for thousands of people across Victoria.

Contracts are expected to be awarded by the end of April, construction is expected to commence in late-2017, and to be completed by the end of 2018.
