Labor lights up kyneton showgrounds

The Kyneton Football Netball Club will be able to stage blockbuster Bendigo Football Netball League night matches on home soil thanks to a $200,000 Andrews Labor Government funding package announced today by Member for Macedon, Mary-Anne Thomas.

Night fixtures are fast becoming a phenomenon in country and metropolitan leagues across Victoria. They allow clubs to draw bigger crowds, ensuring vital revenue. Having state-of-the-art facilities helps clubs like Kyneton attract players from nearby towns and beyond.

It’s another major milestone for the resurgent Tigers, who were nearly forced to fold in 2013 due to a player shortage. Now, Kyneton is slowly returning to its status as a Bendigo Football Netball League powerhouse.

The Labor Government is delivering on its election commitment to spend $100,000 upgrading lighting facilities at the Kyneton Showgrounds. The remaining $100,000 is from the latest round of the Country Football Netball Program.

The Tigers are just one of 14 clubs across Victoria set to share in $1.1 million funding. Grants will fund ground resurfacing, lighting and facility upgrades, and the construction of new pavilions and netball courts.

Ms Thomas thanked the Macedon Ranges Shire Council for its $272,000 contribution and the Kyneton Football Club for contributing $70,000.

The Labor Government is committed to upgrading community sport and recreation facilities across the state for all Victorians. The Government will also deliver on its pre-election promise to allocate $100 million to the Community Sporting Infrastructure Fund
