Getting the planning right in gisborne to boost jobs and make communities stronger

The Andrews Labor Government is getting the planning right in Gisborne to boost jobs, make homes more affordable and protect the local character.

Member for Macedon Mary-Anne Thomas today announced a $220,000 Streamlining for Growth grant to assist the Macedon Ranges Shire Council develop the Gisborne and New Gisborne Structure Plan and a Gisborne Town Centre Urban Design Framework.

Mary-Anne said "It’s not hard to understand why so many people are choosing Gisborne to live, work and raise a family but as the town’s popularity grows, we need to make sure we retain the qualities that make this town great".

The projects will ensure Gisborne grows sustainably, providing the right conditions for new affordable housing, open space and economic development.

As new communities develop, it’s critical we put proper plans in place so that they feature the schools, parks, community services and open space that all Victorians deserve.

It’s also about jobs. By getting the planning right, we’re encouraging more local jobs where people live – so that they spend less time commuting and more with family and friends.

The Labor Government’s Streamlining for Growth grants are being delivered by the Victorian Planning Authority. They’re all about cutting red tape and boosting council resources to encourage development and make our communities as liveable as ever.

In total, more than $20 million is being invested in the program over four years.
