Free buses for anzac dawn service

The Labor Member for Macedon, Mary-Anne Thomas, has announced free bus services will be provided for residents from major townships across the Macedon Ranges attending the Mt Macedon ANZAC Day Dawn Service.

The free services have been made possible with a $15,000 grant from the Andrews Labor Government.

The Mt Macedon ANZAC Day Dawn Service is fast becoming Victoria’s second largest Dawn Service outside of the Shrine of Remembrance and across regional Victoria with some 4,000 people attending the Service each year.

Buses are free for residents across the Macedon Ranges, and depart from major townships including Gisborne (Gisborne Train Station at 4:15am and 5:15am), Woodend (Woodend Train Station 4:30am and 5:15am), Macedon (Tony Clarke Reserve, operates as a continual shuttle service from 4:15am), Riddells Creek (Riddells Creek Primary School 4:15am), Romsey (Romsey Community Hub at 4:30am and 5:00am) and Lancefield (Lancefield Mechanics Hall4:45am). A bus service is also provided from Sunbury (Sunbury Train Station at 5:00am).

The free bus services were introduced to the Mt Macedon ANZAC Day Dawn Service by the organising Committee three years ago to ensure the safety of all patrons who attend the Dawn Service.

Limited parking at the Memorial Cross Reserve and the combination of a large number of vehicles travelling to the Memorial Cross Reserve in bad weather means it is no longer safe for private vehicles to travel to the Service.

Bookings for all bus services apart from the shuttle service from Tony Clarke Reserve is essential, and can be made by visiting the Organ’s Coaches website: www.organscoaches.com.au or by calling 5422 1788.

This year’s Service will be held on Monday 25 April and will commence at 6:00AM.

Local Scouts will provide a sausage sizzle and the Top of the Range Tea Rooms will be open for breakfast after the Service.

Quotes attributable to Mary-Anne Thomas MP, Labor Member for Macedon:
"The ANZAC Day Dawn Service at Mt Macedon has become a very special event in our region".

"This funding will ensure visitors and residents across the Macedon Ranges can safely enjoy this service with their families".
