Metcalfe volunteer firefighters will soon have the modern facility they need to keep their community safe, with construction starting on a new fire station.
On Sunday, Member for Macedon Mary-Anne Thomas visited the site of the new station to meet with members of the brigade and formally mark the start of construction works.
The new station will feature a motor room with two reverse-in bays, storage space, operational areas, a multipurpose room and dedicated turnout areas for male and female volunteers.
The design of the station incorporates environmentally sustainable principles to limit the impact on the surrounding area – it will be fitted with solar panels, a rainwater recycling system and will have room for a future electric vehicle charging station.
Funding for the new station was provided through the Allan Labor Government’s almost $70 million emergency services upgrade program, which has supported the construction and renovation of more than 20 projects across the state since 2022.
The new station is located at 22 Kyneton-Metcalfe Road with construction being undertaken by H.Troon Pty Ltd, with works expected to be complete in early 2026.
Founded in 1895, the 54 member-strong Metcalfe CFA brigade, which includes 17 women, responds to fires, and vehicle and rescue incidents in the local area.
They have attended numerous significant incidents and fires, including the 2009 Black Saturday fires and the 2020-21 Black Summer fires.
