A FRESH CATCH OF FUNDING FOR MACEDON

The Allan Labor Government is building new fishing platforms, providing better fish habitat in our rivers and continuing research of native fish species across Victoria.

Member for Macedon, Mary-Anne Thomas today announced Coliban Water will receive:

$85,800 to install a floating fishing pontoon at Lauriston Reservoir in Kyneton to enable fishers with limited mobility to access the water's edge safely, as well as assist fishers with kayaks to launch and retrieve easily and safely. Lauriston Reservoir has been stocked with large numbers of Murray cod and golden perch by the VFA in recent years and is an important fishing location for locals and well as visiting anglers from Melbourne.

$61,688 towards extending the boat ramp on Upper Coliban Reservoir at Premier Mine Road. The ramp was only installed a few years ago when the water level was much higher. Extending the boat ramp whilst the water is at a much lower level will allow visitors to launch their vessels in dry years for longer and also help to protect the cultural heritage of the area.

In addition, this funding will go towards installing 3 new shelters with picnic tables as well as 7 other picnic tables for recreational shoreline fishers to enjoy at various locations around the Upper Coliban and Lauriston Reservoirs. The two reservoirs are well stocked with popular native species such as Murray cod and golden perch.

These grants are one part of 20 new projects which have shared in more than $2 million from the Recreational Fishing Grants Program – backing local communities to improve to facilities and access to fishing.

The program is designed to encourage Victorians to take up fishing and share the many memorable experiences the sport can offer within their communities.

The large grants category of the Recreational Fishing Grants Program is currently open for more new projects, worth up to $100,000 each, until 28 February 2026.

Victoria is proud to stock more fish than every other state and territory in the country combined – giving Victorians more opportunities to take part in fishing across the state.

The grant program is in addition to the Labor Government’s $96 million Go Fishing and Boating Plan to improve fishing, boating, piers and aquaculture.
