150 reasons to celebrate at romsey primary school

Students at Romsey Primary School were treated to a special guest today with Catherine Andrews, wife of the Victorian Premier, visiting the school with the Member for Macedon, Mary-Anne Thomas MP.

Catherine Andrews and Ms Thomas toured the school with Principal, Loren Peavey, before snuggling down with a grade one class to read a book gifted to the school in celebration of Children’s Book Week.

The Member for Macedon was also pleased to announce that Romsey Primary School is one of five schools across the electorate that will share in more than $700,000 in maintenance grants to ensure students can thrive in a safe, modern and comfortable environment.

Romsey Primary School will receive $112,000 to complete the refurbishment of classroom and gym space.

Ms Thomas said the additional funding supports the Labor Government’s commitment to making Victoria the Education State and was timely given the school’s upcoming 150th anniversary celebrations.

The 2015-16 Victorian Budget was the single biggest boost to education funding in Victoria’s history – investing close to $4 billion in Victoria’s education and skills system.

It provides $325 million to renovate, refurbish or rebuild 67 schools – 25 of them in our fast-growing outer suburbs and 21 in regional Victoria. It includes $180 million for programs that will help families cover the extra costs of education, like camps, excursions and uniforms, so no child misses out.

It also provides $120 million to build and upgrade Catholic and Independent schools across the state, matching dollar-for-dollar the non-government sector’s contribution. The Budget will also fund the first stage of an extensive asbestos removal program so that families can be assured their children are being educated in safe schools.

Romsey Primary School’s 150th celebrations will take place over three days from Thursday October 22nd to Saturday 24th. Members of the local community are encouraged to join in the celebrations.
