Principal appointed for new primary school in gisborne

Families in Gisborne are one step closer to getting a great new local school in Term 1, 2022, with the appointment of Ms Rynn Anderson as principal of Willowbank Primary School.

Rynn has been appointed principal of Willowbank Primary School following a thorough Department of Education and Training process to select one of Victoria’s best and brightest educators to lead the school.

She brings a wealth of education experience to the role and has taught at schools across the western suburbs, most recently spending six years as the principal of Tarneit P-9 College.

Rynn is a highly motivated and passionate educational leader with a strong commitment to driving school improvement and improving student outcomes. She is looking forward to meeting the students and families of Willowbank Primary School and working with them to develop a high-performing primary school that the community will be proud of.

Willowbank Primary School will cater to the diverse needs of all students and will support the needs of the growing population so students can attend a local primary school.

The state-of-the-art school is being built to accommodate 475 students from Prep to Year 6. The school will include space for students to be active, natural outdoor areas that reflect the surrounding environment, and modern learning facilities that support diverse curriculums.

The school will include an administration building, including library, art, food and science learning spaces, a performing arts and physical education building, two learning neighbourhoods, two outdoor hardcourts, a sports field, bike shed and playgrounds.

A two-room kindergarten will be co-located on the Willowbank Primary School site and will also open in Term 1, 2022, helping some parents ditch the double drop-off and ensuring a smoother transition between kindergarten and school settings.

In the past seven years, the Victorian Government has invested more than $10.9 billion in building new schools and more than 1,700 school upgrades, creating around 13,500 jobs in construction and associated industries.

It is ahead of schedule on its commitment to open 100 new schools by 2026, with 48 new schools opening between 2019 and 2022.
