Old kyneton primary school site to stay in public hands

The Andrews Labor Government will keep the old Kyneton Primary School site in public hands, the Member for Macedon Mary-Anne Thomas announced today.

The announcement, confirmed by the Premier, recognises the value of the site to the Kyneton community and the strong desire to keep it in public ownership.

It follows the conclusion of community consultation commissioned by the government and undertaken by the Macedon Ranges Shire Council, which revealed a strong preference for transforming the old school site into the new community heart of town.

The Kyneton Primary School Master Plan report, currently being considered by the Macedon Ranges Shire Council, canvasses a range of options for the uses and ownership of the old Kyneton Primary School site.

Ms Thomas noted the report provides valuable information about community values and aspirations and provides an excellent basis to determine how an appropriate public ownership model can be achieved.

The Loddon Campaspe Regional Partnership (LCRP) will be tasked with working collaboratively with a range of community groups and representatives from local government and other agencies to determine the best future use for the site and preferred governance arrangements.

Regional Partnerships have been established to ensure local communities have a greater say about what matters to them and LCRP will provide a constructive avenue for continuing this conversation with the community.
