New crossing for st mary’s primary school

Students and parents at St Mary’s Primary School in Lancefield will soon have a safer walk to school, with funding for a new school crossing announced by the Member for Macedon, Mary-Anne Thomas at a visit to the school on Tuesday.

The Andrews Labor Government is investing $70,000 to build the new crossing, following calls from the local member, Mary-Anne Thomas and the school community.

The new crossing will give Macedon Ranges Shire Council the option of approving a School Crossing Supervisor for St Marys.

The Victorian Budget 2018/19 will include $23.9 million to improve road safety around our schools, while also providing a massive boost to Victoria’s School Crossing Supervisor Program.

St Mary’s Primary School will be one of the first schools to benefit, with dozens more school safety announcements to follow over the coming weeks.

The Labor Government has also announced $18.9 million to continue the popular School Crossing Supervisor Program, which has been keeping our kids safe for more than 40 years.

There are more than 3000 crossing supervisors across the state – the highest number of any state or territory in Australia.

The package will allow the school crossing supervisor program to continue to run until 2019 under a co-funding model between the Victorian Government and local councils.

A recent review by Transport for Victoria found supervised school crossings were an effective and cost-efficient way to improve safety around our schools.

"We’ve heard what parents at St Mary’s Primary School have had to say, now we’re investing in the crossing that this school community needs."

"Children are among our most vulnerable road users and these improvements will make it safer as they’re travelling to and from school."
