New classrooms and facilities for gisborne students

Families in Gisborne are a step closer to having the modern classrooms and teaching facilities they deserve, thanks to the Andrews Labor Government.

Minister for Education James Merlino and Member for Macedon Mary-Anne Thomas today toured the Gisborne Primary School to discuss designs for its $1.628 million upgrade.

The school received funding in this year’s Budget to upgrade its ageing classrooms and facilities. It is anticipated that the project will create new and upgraded classrooms – including reconfiguring classrooms into a new horseshoe shape – to support modern teaching techniques and the school’s growing enrolments.

It is also expected that the Prep and administration areas will also be upgraded. Work will start in the second half of next year, with the new school buildings expected to be completed in 2019.

The upgrade designs are currently being completed by architects Bryant Alsop.

The Labor Government has invested an unprecedented $2.5 billion in school infrastructure over the past three Budgets, to ensure we can continue to cater for the estimated 90,000 students who are expected to enter the school system over the next five years.

This school building boom has delivered more than 1,000 school upgrades and 56 new school projects across the state, supporting almost 5,000 construction jobs for Victorians. "I can’t wait for this upgrade to get underway, we are delivering on the promises we have made to local families to improve education infrastructure in the area" Said Mary-Anne Thomas
