Lancefield tennis club promotes cardio health

Lancefield Tennis Club has received a $2580 state government grant to provide a cardio health program that will cater to age groups across the community.

The Member for Macedon, Mary-Anne Thomas paid a visit to the club today to announce the news and praise club management for developing the project.

The grant is one of 40 awarded across Victoria to support local sport and recreation initiatives as part of the Country Action Grant Scheme.

"Sport and sports clubs are such an important of our regional communities," Ms Thomas said”.

"These grants enhance the capacity of local sporting organisations to increase participation in their community".

Club President, Roger Barr said the program will enable age groups from across the community to monitor their cardio health through a tailored exercise program.

"The program is open to the whole community – participants don’t have to be a club member".

This grant comes on top of a $520 equipment grant to the club as part VicHealth’s Active Club Grants.

"These grants are fantastic because not only do they encourage more sports and recreation activity, they also provide that real sense of community that comes from being part of a local club."

"I encourage everyone to get involved with a local club. Local clubs provide a fun and sociable escape from the stresses of modern life, and can have a positive impact on a person’s sense of health and wellbeing," Ms Thomas said.

The VicHealth Active Club Grants program has now provided a total of $1.3 million to 566 local sports and active recreation clubs in 2014-15.
