Labor scores top goal for women in kyneton & woodend

Sporting clubs in the Macedon Ranges will be scoring more goals and growing their ranks with funding from the Andrews Labor Government to upgrade and create female-friendly change room facilities at the Kyneton Showgrounds and Woodend’s Gilbert Gordon Reserve.

State member for Macedon Mary-Anne Thomas today announced that Kyneton Football Netball Club was among 23 sports facilities across Victoria to share in more than $2 million from the latest round of the Country Football and Netball Program.

In Kyneton, we are delivering $100,000 to the Macedon Ranges Shire Council to redevelop the existing change facilities to cater for female participation and to develop unisex umpires changerooms at the Kyneton Showgrounds.

This means the mighty Kyneton Tigers will have the facilities to grow their female football teams and promote equal opportunities for local women to stay healthy and active, either as a player, coach, umpire or volunteer. Mary-Anne Thomas affirmed this, saying "girls and women in the Macedon Ranges deserve to have the same opportunities to play, stay fit and enjoy community sport as men, these upgraded facilities will ensure that they can."

In Woodend, the Labor Government is providing $100,000 to give players and teams at the Woodend-Hesket Football Netball Club and the Woodend Cricket Club modern and inclusive facilities as part of a broader $1.2 million upgrade being undertaken by the Macedon Ranges Shire Council.

The Labor Government is getting on with giving all Victorians – no matter where they live – better access to the modern and inclusive facilities they deserve.

Labor first started the Country Football and Netball Program in 2005, and since then, a total of over 400 projects have shared in funding of over $22 million through the program.

This program replaces and upgrades ageing grounds and facilities for football and netball clubs across regional Victoria so they can meet growing demand and welcome even more members.

The 2016/17 Victorian Budget delivered a further $60 million boost to build new and upgrade sporting facilities across the state and keep our reputation as the nation’s sporting capital. This included another $8 million boost for the Country Football and Netball Program.

The program has an additional $1 million from partners the AFL, AFL Victoria and Netball Victoria.
