Labor government supports uniforms and books for our kids

The Labor Member for Macedon, Mary-Anne Thomas said an extra 25,000 students and their families will receive help each year to pay for school uniforms, shoes, books and stationery through State Schools’ Relief thanks to the Andrews Labor Government’s $15.6 million commitment.

Ms Thomas said the funding boost will enable SSR to increase the number of disadvantaged students receiving financial help, up from the 10,000 who benefited from the program last year to 35,000 this year.

The Labor Government is committed to supporting working families and making sure every student has every chance to reach their full potential. This includes helping parents with the costs of educating their children.

Families qualify to receive assistance if they have children at a Victorian government school and are facing one or more of the following:

 health issues resulting in serious financial difficulty

 house fires where school clothing is lost

 natural disasters

 serious financial difficulty For 85 years, SSR has worked with government schools to provide uniforms and shoes to struggling families, helping more children to fully participate in education. It is the leading agency providing such assistance to students in Victorian government schools.

For more information about applying for State School’s Relief, contact your local school directly. Schools can apply online at www.ssr.net.au/schools when they believe a student needs help with appropriate uniforms and footwear for school.
