Funding for local sporting clubs now available

Member for Macedon, Mary-Anne Thomas is calling on local sport and recreation clubs to apply for VicHealth’s new Active Club Grants.

Active Club Grants provide groups with up to $3,000 to buy essential sporting items and sports injury prevention and management equipment. The grants are aimed at increasing physical activity and helping communities stay connected.

As Parliamentary Secretary for Health, Ms Thomas underscored the importance of sporting and recreation clubs, "especially in regional areas where they are often at the centre of the community".

"Community sports groups often struggle to afford the equipment they need – that’s where these grants really help," Ms Thomas said.

"I encourage all teams and clubs across the Macedon Ranges to apply for a VicHealth Active Club Grant".

This year, VicHealth has two rounds of funding – the second of which will close on Friday 13 February 2015. Priority will be given to applications from clubs and organisations that demonstrate how an Active Club Grant will increase opportunities for regular physical activity in their community.
