Equipment upgrade to treat kyneton patients sooner

More Kyneton patients will get the surgeries they need sooner thanks to an Andrews Labor Government funding boost to upgrade medical equipment at Kyneton District Health Service.

Member for Macedon, Mary-Anne Thomas, today announced the hospital would receive more than $400,000 through the second round of the Labor Government’s Regional Health Infrastructure Fund.

The funding boost for Kyneton District Health Service will be used to buy a range of new medical equipment for its diagnostic and surgical services.

This includes a new image intensifier, a new operating table, a new steam system to sterilise medical equipment and a new instrument washer disinfector.

The upgrade will enable doctors to perform more surgeries and improve the quality, reliability and safety of medical equipment.

This will improve patient outcomes and deliver safer and better care, while also meeting increasing demand for local surgical services.

The latest funding comes in addition to the $167,000 provided to Kyneton District Health Service in the first round of the Fund to replace a backup generator.

Last week, the Fund was expanded by a further $50 million – taking the total investment into rural and regional health services to $250 million. The Fund is the largest of its kind in Victorian history, and is giving all Victorians access to the high quality care and facilities they need, no matter where they live.

Last year’s budget delivered $1.67 billion to support hospitals meet demand and provide the high quality care Victorian patients deserve, as well as $428.5 million in new hospital upgrades.

In last year’s budget, Kyneton District Health Service received $9.98 million in funding from the Labor Government. This is $1 million or 11.6 per cent more than provided the previous financial year, and a whopping $2.2 million or 28.2 per cent more than when the Liberals were in government.
