Benefits to flow to mineral springs tourism

The Victorian Government today announced a $240,000 initiative to help build tourism in Daylesford and the Macedon Ranges region – Australia’s leading spa and wellness destination and home to many mineral springs.

At Lake Daylesford today, Member for Macedon Mary-Anne Thomas announced the Mineral Springs Feasibility, Business Case and Master Plan Project that will map out a future for growth and infrastructure improvements. Much of the tourism infrastructure supporting mineral springs in region is in need of improvement and could accommodate greater number of visitors with a wider variety of experiences on offer if it were upgraded.

"We’re investing in the unique mineral springs of Daylesford and the Macedon Ranges to help grow the tourism industry even further because more visitors mean more jobs and that’s important for the region" she said.

The project will assess options for developing high-yield tourism experiences associated with the mineral springs, identify key visitor sites, and provide a Master Plan, reference designs and implementation framework for the delivery of the recommended improvements.

It is funded through the Regional Tourism and Infrastructure Fund, which is growing the visitor economy by facilitating the development of iconic regional tourism projects that create world-class tourism experiences and boost the regional economy.

The Victorian Government is already investing $250,000 in infrastructure upgrades around Lake Daylesford to ensure it remains a popular and accessible attraction for locals and visitors to enjoy.

The project is filling gaps in the lake circuit, improving accessibility for all users, and installing new signage, public toilets, park furniture and a jetty. Works began mid last year and are expected to be complete in the coming months.

These improvements will encourage more people to visit the beautiful lake precinct and enjoy the mineral springs, walking trails, birdlife, and boating activities on offer.

Daylesford and Macedon Ranges’ stunning natural setting, abundance of wellness experiences, and excellent range of accommodation and dining options make it one of regional Victoria’s most popular tourism destinations.

The visitor economy is crucial to the future economic development of regional and rural Victoria, with the sector contributing $11.5 billion to the regional economy and generating 114,400 jobs annually.
