Access now open for all at glenlyon hall

The residents of Glenlyon in the Hepburn Shire now have a newly renovated hall thanks to the Victorian Government’s Regional Jobs and Infrastructure Fund.

Minister for Regional Development, Jaala Pulford, and Member for Macedon, Mary-Anne Thomas, today officially opened the venue, following a government contribution of $300,000 towards the project known as "Access for (h)all".

The home of the original shire offices built in 1890, the Glenlyon community acquired the building in 1989 and it has operated with only minor renovations having been carried out in the past 20 years.

The hall’s redevelopment included:

strengthening the floor structure, and replacing walls, doors and windows

installation of access ramps and external safety lighting construction of an accessible family change room and bathroom putting in a new rainwater tank building a new veranda and adding landscaping

The upgraded and expanded hall is now better suited to meet the community’s needs, and enables community groups to offer a greater range of programs and opportunities for people of all abilities.

The hall is currently home to an art and craft group, Playgroup, the CFA, Art and Sculpture Shows, Fine Food and Wine Fayre, and Glenlyon Forest Group, and the redevelopment should help to attract more organisations and activities to use the hall.

Minister Pulford said the redevelopment of the Glenlyon Hall was a high priority for Hepburn Shire Council and the Glenlyon Community, with the Glenlyon Progress Association the driving force behind making the project happen.

The $400,000 project was also supported by Hepburn Shire Council, Glenlyon Progress Association, and Daylesford and District Community Bank.
