Work begins at new gisborne primary school

Students at New Gisborne Primary School are a step closer to having the facilities they deserve, with work starting on a $772,000 redevelopment of the school’s facilities.

Mary-Anne Thomas MP today joined parents, students and teachers to turn the first sod to mark the start of construction.

Ms Thomas said she had made a commitment for the upgrade of the site as one of her election promises in 2014, and was thrilled to be getting it done as part of the Andrews Labor Government.

The redevelopment includes a long overdue replacement of the school’s Art Room, which burnt down in 2011. The Liberal Government of the time failed to replace the building.

The Andrews Labor Government is building the Education State so that every Victorian students gets the opportunity for a great education and every community has access to a great school.

There are now 42 new government schools and hundreds of school upgrades in the construction pipeline following the Labor Government’s record $1.8 billion investment in school infrastructure.

This school building boom will create 4000 construction jobs and ensure all Victorian families have access to a great school no matter where they live.
