Romsey to receive main street makeover

Romsey’s streetscape will be upgraded to create an environment where existing and new businesses can thrive, and visitors will be encouraged to spend more time in town, thanks to a $400,000 Victorian Government grant.

Minister for Regional Development Jaala Pulford announced the funding in Romsey’s Main Street today and said the project would enhance the attractiveness of the centre of town and create opportunities for business growth. Minister Pulford acknowledged and congratulated the Romsey Region Business and Tourism Association on its vision for the project.

It is anticipated that six full-time jobs will be created for the duration of the four-month construction phase.

The upgrade of Main Street includes:

safer pedestrian access improved amenity and visitor experiences upgraded lighting in key locations upgraded historical and interpretive information and signage landscaping and street furniture including seating and bicycle facilities.

The increased economic benefits and local employment expected to be delivered by the project are also likely to help build civic pride and community wellbeing.

The grant is made possible by the Government’s Regional Jobs and Infrastructure Fund (RJIF) which invests in initiatives that build critical infrastructure, create jobs, and support dynamic communities, and will significantly contribute to a total project cost of $550,000.

The project has additional funding of $150,000 from the Macedon Ranges Shire Council who will also manage the delivery of the project.
