Putting riddells creek’s grassroots athletes first

The Andrews Labor Government is putting Riddells Creek families first by building state-of-the-art new sports facilities for Riddells Creek Tennis Club and Riddells Creek Cricket Club.

State Member for Macedon, Mary-Anne Thomas MP announced today the Riddells Creek Tennis Club is set to benefit from the Labor Government’s Community Sports Infrastructure Fund by receiving a $100,000 grant.

The grant will support the construction of two fully lit tennis courts and a multi-purpose netball / basketball court.

In addition, the Riddells Creek Cricket Club, and Gisborne Cricket club will both benefit from new nets with $100,000 from the State Government’s Community Sports Infrastructure Fund.

President of the Riddells Creek Cricket Club, Steven Paterson said that the new nets are needed more now than ever. "There are a growing number of people getting involved in cricket, girls and boys, and net space is at a premium. It’s pretty difficult to put four teams into three nets. The existing nets have been here for 15 or so years, so they’re in desperate need of an upgrade."

Riddells Creek is one of the fastest growing regions in the Macedon Ranges Shire Council, with a major growth in population under 18 years of age. These new facilities will ensure that there are places for them to get together, embrace healthy and active lifestyles and create special memories that stay with them for life.

Victoria is the sporting state, and it doesn’t happen by chance. We’re upgrading grassroots facilities all over the state, because it changes people’s lives for the better.

Quotes attributable to Mary-Anne Thomas MP
"Grassroots sport in Riddells Creek is incredibly popular, and local players deserve the best facilities. That’s exactly what we’re delivering."

"For too long, communities all over Victoria have had to contend with ageing facilities. We promised we’d help clubs update tired grounds and build the facilities they need."
