Netball and tennis changerooms open in lancefield

Construction of female friendly and accessible change rooms and public toilets at Lancefield Football Netball and Tennis clubs is complete.

The Victorian Government funded the $450,000 facility, which is already being enjoyed by local players.

A range of local traders generously committed in-kind support and discounts on materials. The project was managed by Lancefield Park Recreation Reserves Incorporated, designed pro-bono by local architect Stephan Kosa and constructed by local builder John Poletti.

Prior to construction, female players had to get changed in public toilets or their cars.

The Lancefield community identified the project as a priority due to the increase in female participation in club sport, and it has been supported at every step by local member Mary-Anne Thomas MP.

The $450,000 funding for the new change rooms was part of the $1.5 million the Victorian Government has provided for community infrastructure renewal projects in the Lancefield area.

Other projects funded with the $1.5 million include: new playground; resurfacing of two netball/tennis courts; resurfacing of main oval; upgrade of cricket club rooms; security fencing and outdoor area for bowls club; new skate park and bmx pump track; new tractor; upgrade to Benloch Fire Station meeting room and an upgrade to the toilets at the Mechanics Institute.

Quotes attributable to Member for Macedon, Mary-Anne Thomas MP
"The completion of this project is an exciting chapter in Lancefield’s netball and tennis history and is a welcome boost to our local community infrastructure."

"It’s about time that female players have their own place to change and prepare for the game – and I’m sure the girls and women from Lancefield Football Netball and Tennis clubs would agree. I’m proud to be a part of a Government that is supporting these inclusive facilities, so that everyone in our community can participate."
