Mary-anne pledges to listen to local schools

As hundreds of students across Macedon return to school this week, Member for Macedon, Mary-Anne Thomas visited students at Lancefield Primary School.

Some 21 preps will embark on the most important year of their young life at Lancefield Primary, alongside 135 fellow pupils in other years.

Ms Thomas noted how Lancefield Primary School was a wonderful example of a community school with a strong and dedicated staff and thriving program of activities.

"The last four years have been difficult for many parents and schools in regional Victoria who have been struggling with Liberal cuts to education".

"While the start of school is an exciting time for new preps, the pull on family finances with uniforms, books and excursions can also make it a stressful one," Ms Thomas said.

"I’m very much looking forward to visiting school communities across the seat to listen and learn more about their needs".

"To ease the pressure on families, the Andrews Labor Government is establishing a $150 million Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund to cover the cost of these trips so the pressure is eased on the family budget".

"To make sure all kids fit in and get the best start, the Andrews Labor Government will also partner with State Schools Relief to give uniforms and eye glasses to kids who need them, but whose parents can’t afford them".

"Rest assured the government is working hard to ease the financial pressure so that parents have the support they need," Ms Thomas said.
