Major upgrades for kyneton & hanging rock racecourses

The Andrews Labor Government is upgrading facilities at Kyneton and Hanging Rock racecourses, with new tie-up stalls and new infrastructure to improve safety and welfare of horses and handlers.

The Labor Government has contributed almost $470,000 from the Victorian Racing Industry Fund to upgrade both venues, while a further $13,000 is supporting the New Year’s Family Day at Hanging Rock on 1 January 2019, as part of a $978,000 joint funding package.

A recently completed upgrade to the tie-up stalls at Kyneton Racecourse has delivered 110 new and refurbished stalls.

New public walkways have improved safety by minimising the interaction of horses and racegoers, and a new drainage system will harvest storm water for track irrigation, providing estimated savings of $10,000 every year.

At Hanging Rock Racecourse, the jockeys’ room, administration buildings and public toilets have been renovated and modernised, while the public bar has been extended to cater for larger crowds and community events.

The new facilities will be on show at the New Year’s Family Day at Hanging Rock – a kid-friendly day featuring a jumping castle, inflatable car slide, laser tag and sack races to help see in 2019.

Kyneton & Hanging Rock Racing Club is providing almost $204,000 towards the upgrades and family race day, while Racing Victoria is providing more than $270,000 to the renovations.

Macedon Ranges Shire Council also contributed $10,000 towards the upgrades at Hanging Rock. Country Racing Victoria is providing $12,000 towards the New Year’s Family Day event at Hanging Rock.

Since 2014, the Labor Government has provided more than $643,000 to support 11 infrastructure projects and a racing event for Kyneton & Hanging Rock Racing Club.

The racing industry in the Loddon region generates more than $166 million for the Victorian economy annually and helps to sustain more than 1640 full-time equivalent jobs locally.
