Honouring the service and sacrifice of romsey’s veterans

The Andrews Labor Government is giving the Romsey community a new opportunity to honour and commemorate the service of their veterans.

Local Member for Macedon Mary-Anne Thomas today announced a $4,140 grant to restore two WW1 Honour Rolls in the foyer of the Romsey Mechanics Institute.

The Restoring Community War Memorials and Avenues of Honour Grants Program helps communities all over Victoria update tired war memorials, honour rolls and avenues of honour that commemorate the service of local veterans. Grants of up to $20,000 are made available.

There are more than 1200 war memorials across Victoria, and many more honour rolls. Of the 325 Avenues of Honour planted since World War I, approximately 50 remain – but many are either overgrown or in need of repair.

So many Victorians have a connection with our wartime history, and we’re helping deliver the projects or commemorative activities that pay tribute to the wars that shaped our nation. In total, we’re spending nearly $130,000 on 17 projects across the state.
