Hepburn riders dressed for success

State Member for Macedon Mary-Anne Thomas today announced that Riding for the Disabled, Daylesford Centre and the Glenlyon & District Pony Club would receive grants for the purchase of uniforms as part of the Andrews Labor Government’s Sporting Club Grants Program.

Lesley Hewitt from Riding for the Disabled, Daylesford said it was a very exciting announcement. "The uniforms give people a sense of belonging, that they are part of something, and that’s very important in terms of building confidence, and social engagement" she said.

Riding for the Disabled has been running for 21 years out of Daylesford, but they are always on the lookout for volunteers who can commit to one afternoon a week during school terms.

With riders ranging from 3 to 54 years old, who often compete in local, national and even international competitions, there is always plenty to do. Lesley encourages anyone who is interested in horses, and has a willingness to work with people with a disability to get in touch.

Grassroots clubs are the heart of Victorian communities. They keep families connected, kids happy and healthy and communities safe. Our Sporting Club Grants Program is helping these important institutions grow.

Grants will cover the costs of new equipment like bats or balls, modern uniforms or development programs for coaches, players and officials.

Victoria is the sporting state, and it starts at the grassroots. Our $100 million Community Sports Infrastructure Fund is helping clubs all over Victoria update tired grounds and build the facilities they need.
