Extra services open up weekends for macedon passengers

The Andrews Labor Government is opening up the weekend for passengers who use Malmsbury, Macedon, Riddells Creek and Clarkefield Stations, with 27 more weekday and weekend train services starting from 27 August.

Member for Macedon Mary-Anne Thomas today announced the new V-Line timetable, with nine extra services on Saturdays and Sundays, increasing the frequency of trains on weekends from around 90 to 60 minutes during the day.

In a boost for people visiting Melbourne and attending mid-week events, the late-night service on Fridays will also be extended to run each weeknight departing Southern Cross Station at 11:52pm and stopping at Malmsbury, Macedon, Riddells Creek and Clarkefield on its way to Bendigo.

A weekday off-peak service will also be added in the evening departing Southern Cross Station at 9:52pm, stopping at Malmsbury, Macedon, Riddells Creek and Clarkefield on its journey to Bendigo.

The new services come on top of the 10 extra weekly services added to the Bendigo corridor in January, taking the number of services added by the Labor Government this year to 28.

As more passengers use V-Line, the Labor Government has invested $311.1 million for 39 new VLocity carriages on top of the existing order of 48 new carriages, in order to add capacity to the busiest services.

Malmsbury, Macedon, Riddells Creek and Clarkefield passengers are also set to benefit from the Victorian and Federal Government’s Regional Rail Revival, with $91 million committed for upgrading the Bendigo line to run faster trains.

Timetables are now available from www.vline.com.au/27august Passengers will be able to pick up printed timetables from stations and plan their trip using the Plan a Journey tool on the V-Line website from Thursday 27 July.
