Delivering weekend gisbus services

The Andrews Labor Government is introducing 18 weekend Gisbus services to make it simpler and easier for Gisborne locals to get where they need to go at the time they want to travel.

Nine extra services will be added to the existing Route 473 on both Saturdays and Sundays to better connect people to the town centre and the train station. The route is a fixed-service, so commuters will not need to book in advance.

These services add to the additional 16 GisBus weekday services introduced in November 2017 and the additional 38 train services added to the Bendigo line since June 2015, delivering better public transport options for people in Gisborne.

Route 473 will now provide 98 services per week, Monday to Sunday, on top of the 90 services on Route 474 that run Monday to Friday. These services include short and round trips for passengers.

The changes are part of the Labor Government’s Additional Regional Bus Services initiative designed to give residents in regional and rural areas more access to reliable and frequent public transport.

The changes will be introduced on Sunday 14 October 2018 with new timetables and maps available around one month before on ptv.vic.gov.au.

"We’ve listened to the community and now we’re delivering weekend Gisbus services."

"Running these extra services will allow more people to get around Gisborne on weekends, including from the train to the popular Gisborne Old Time Market. These extra services will better meet the needs of young people, allowing them to get to sport, weekend jobs and the train station."

"As Gisborne continues to grow we’re improving the local transport network to meet that demand."
