Delivering more support for local libraries

The Andrews Labor Government is investing in improving public libraries across Daylesford and the Macedon Ranges so local communities continue to have access to quality facilities.

This week, Minister for Local Government Adem Somyurek announced $4.5 million was available as part of the 2019-20 Living Libraries Funding Program (LLIP).

Libraries enrich, strengthen and connect communities by providing free public access to information, technology, literacy support as well as training and skills development.

The Living Libraries Infrastructure Program funds better library facilities and buildings across Victoria. It has provided $18 million to councils since 2014 which has been leveraged into a total spend of $154 million, supporting 58 library projects, 34 of which were in regional and rural areas.

Local projects that have been funded in previous funding rounds include:

Refurbishment of the Gisborne Library with a new courtyard, providing further spaces for innovative activities and quiet reflection.

Upgrades are currently happening at Kyneton to create a welcoming, accessible and comfortable space for locals and visitors alike.

Earlier this month Minister Somyurek also announced a record investment in operational funding for public libraries of $44.7 million. This funding increased the amount allocated to both Macedon Ranges Shire Council and Hepburn Shire Council to meet increased costs.
